The location of your session is a small but crucial element of the portrait planning process. Backgrounds play a subtle role in the way that I photograph, but do add to your story by hinting at the world in which you live. When on location – I photograph exclusively with natural light. For studio sessions I may or may not use studio strobe lighting.
For outdoor sessions, I photograph in the softest light which is following sunrise early in the morning, or the hour leading up to sunset in the evening.
For indoor sessions, we schedule around later morning or midday. We photograph in any room of the home that has good lighting. Typical places include the master bedroom, children’s room/nursery, family room, and/or any other room that provides interesting lighting and composition.
