Some one pinch me! After being in business for well over 10 years I am
happy over-the-freakin-moon excited to announce that I have a proper studio!!!!!!!!!! It is gorgeous – I’m talking the studio of my dreams. The only way I could have a better space is if I built it myself.
I’m on the second floor of the historic Cotton Mill building in the – super cool and rapidly growing – River Arts District in Asheville. I have beautiful natural light pouring in virtually all day – a photographer’s dream. If I glance out the west windows I look out onto the new greenway the City of Asheville is putting in which snakes along the east bank of the French Broad River. New Belgium brewery is directly across the river from my space.
The inside of the studio is incredible – besides all of the wonderful light pouring in from the historic iron windows – it has all of the gorgeous exposed brick and hardwood floors.
My incredible husband built me these awesome moveable walls which act as backdrops, gallery exhibit walls, reflectors, or whatever else I can dream up. They are 8x8x2 with magnetic walnut side panels that come off to access the lockable casters inside. They roll around the studio so easy I can put them wherever I need them and have endless configuration options for the space. I’ve painted one side of one of the walls grey for a different color backdrop option. Here are some pictures of the different wall layouts I’ve played with so far:
Not only is this a shooting space for portrait sessions here in Asheville, but it also is a place to meet with clients. So I’ve brought in a couch and sample products so that I can host viewing and ordering appointments here. I’ve also hung a few of my favorite session images up around the place so that clients can get a sense of finished keepsake sizes. I still have more plans for display pieces and will post those when I’ve got them ready.
Eventually I am going to move my desk in here and do all of my editing, but we don’t have internet yet so I’m still doing all of that from home right now. I am doing all of my photography keepsake assembling here and I also package up orders here too. It is so great to have so much space to get that all done.
And of course I have little decorative things around the studio that I have found and love, including plants of course. I’m sure I’ll continue to add more and more over time.
This studio space is so incredible I want to share it with others so I’m making it available by renting it out to other creatives by the hour or day. It’s a great spot for not only using as a natural light photography studio, but it’s also a great place to meet clients, host a small gathering or luncheon, have a pop-up yoga class or business seminar, the space is great for so many uses! Please click here for the website I created specifically for information on renting the studio space.
I cannot wait for you to see this space in person. Not only can you have a full family portrait session here but we also offer our shorter Pure Sessions (click here for more info) perfect for capturing your child’s precious in-between stages when a full session isn’t necessary. Not only can we capture some fine art portraits in the studio, but I know some incredible spots for family mountain pictures. Your next weekend in Asheville will be perfect – we can capture some treasured family photographs then you can go exploring the many kid friendly breweries, shop downtown, go for a hike, go tubing down the French Broad, stay at one the many fun hotels or other fun lodging options (glamping!).
